Best Sample Pack Label – Meet Jess from Black Octopus Sound

Behind the Octopus: Interview with Marketing Manager Jess

What is it that makes Black Octopus Sound the best sample pack label for professional music production tools and samples? It’s the team! Today we are interviewing Jess who is Black Octopus’ Marketing Manager and also overseeing much of Black Octopus Social Accounts.

Behind The Octopus Interview Series – Jess and Marketing/Online Socials

Welcome to Black Octopus: Behind the Octopus! This is our exclusive interview series where we dive beneath the surface and meet the incredible people behind the samples. While the sounds you hear in our packs might seem like magic, there’s a passionate and creative team making it all happen. From producers and sound designers to marketing, customer service, and tech, every part of the Black Octopus Sound experience is powered by real people working together to shape the future of music tools and how you produce! This series pulls back the curtain so you can get to know the personalities, passions, and stories that make Black Octopus what it is. We will be doing these each week for the next couple months.

Today we sit down with Jess who is in charge of our Marketing and Socials. When artists or sound designers want to release a sample pack it goes through many hands to help it along the way. One of the most important aspects is how it comes across to the customers or online platforms, and how the story behind each sample pack can have a unique twist that people should know about. This is where Jess comes in. She makes sure all of our chaos behind the scenes is organized into a neat package and delivered to the masses in a fluid and top-notch way. Without Jess we’d maybe have some sample packs; but no releases, videos, or ads or anything that makes them ABSOLUTELY AWESOME! So, here we go! Let’s get to know Jess!

Q: How did you start working in the sample pack industry and with Black Octopus Sound?

I almost fell into this job as I have no musical talent whatsoever! I just finished a tourism/marketing degree while working as a dog groomer part time, when a friend recommended me to BOS and I started doing social posts for them, then it grew from there!

Q. What is your favorite artist and favorite genre as a listener?

Depends on the day! I LOVE listening to music so i almost always have something playing, normally my daily soundtrack is LoFi with breakfast, liquid DnB while I work! Then at night, its DnB if any gigs are on, or music to suit the game I’m playing (Tavern bard core for Enshrouded or Japanese LoFi for AC Shadows)

Q: What do you love most about working in the Sample Pack industry?

Working with people who are genuinely inspired and incredibly talented. There’s a constant creative energy in the air, and it’s amazing to be surrounded by artists who are passionate about pushing sound forward!

Q: What is your favorite sample pack release from Black Octopus Sound? My favorite at the moment is one of our newest packs, Modern DnB – Serum 2 Presets by V O E. I love them as an artist and the sound design in there pack is just next-level! Its cinematic, emotional, and completely filthy

Q: What about your favorite production tool or technique – any secret weapons?

No musical secrets here, haha! But when it comes to content, Adobe is my secret weapon. I use it for everything from visuals to video edits, and it’s a huge help in speeding up my workflow and creating a polished look

Q: How do you see the future of music and sample pack creation? What about producers; whats the future of helping them stay inspired?

I think AI will have a massive impact on the sample pack industry but hopefully we can make it a positive one! With new plugins, faster workflows and the rise of AI i think the new challenge will be staying inspired in a world of endless content.

Q: If you could be any animal what would it be and why?

Ohhh good question, either a cat (give me a fireplace to sleep in front of and I’ll be happy) or a bird (so I can fly to new countries and see the world without paying for plane tickets)   There you have it! Jess in all her glory. We often call her ‘the mom’ of the company and its because she truly does wrangle us all up and make sure we are on top of things. She is truly an eagle eye and catches anything and all things needing that extra sparkle or touch to take it next level.
